Henry von Doussa grew up on a small farm in the Adelaide Hills. He won the English prize when he completed his honours year at Melbourne University and then went on to graduate with a Masters degree in 2005. In 2006 he won the Civic Choice Award of the Melbourne Prize for Literature for his first novel The Park Bench (Thompson Walker). Since then Henry has published numerous short pieces of literary fiction and non-fiction, much of which draws upon his experiences as a gay boy and man in Australia. He will publish a memoir, The Pink Book, in 2022.

Henry's visual art is underpinned by a curiosity about the sociopolitical structures that form and hold us. He works in collage and assemblage creating multimedia pieces that have been exhibited as part of Melbourne's Midsumma Festival and published in the Bent Street journal.

Henry works as a social researcher in the area of sexuality and sexual health. His recent work has included studies that support healthcare providers to be inclusive of the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people, and supporting families of young LGBTQI people as they come out.
